Koi Feeding 1

Artist Statement:

"Koi Feeding 1" is a visual symphony of light and motion, born from a simple yet profound family experience by a clear pond. The vision for this piece came into being as the sunlight shimmered on the water's surface, disturbed by the lively koi, and the joy of feeding them with my daughter,. It's about capturing that fleeting sparkle on the water, the way the shadows stretch and contract, and the gentle chaos of nature's movements. Through ink and brush, I've sought to freeze this dance, to hold onto the moment just a little longer.

In this artwork, the ink wash technique becomes a medium for capturing the transient beauty of light upon water. Every brush stroke is intentional, marrying the koi’s swift, erratic movement and depth with the light playing on the pond's agitated surface. The interplay of light and dark is rendered in varied tones of gray, each one contributing to the overall sense of movement and layered depth. The moment captured is both dynamic and intimate, a still image that seeks to move and remember a fleeting, quiet, joyful moment. I intend that this be the first of a series of ink wash works exploring the moment.
